DEFILEMENT: HIV Positive Newspaper Vendor Rapes Lover’s Daughters

The accused, Tom Girih, is reported to have been a newspaper vendor in the last five years (after he failed his SSCE examination twice) and was charged with rape punishable under section 284 of the penal code.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Stanley Omosigho, had told the court that the relation of the victims reported the matter to the divisional police station in the area early this month.
He disclosed that the victims, aged 9 and 10, respectively could not walk after the assault.
He said: “They took the girls to the hospital for treatment and the doctor discovered that someone forcefully had sex with them. Upon interrogation, the victim said the accused who had been their mother’s lover had sex with them
Sgt. Stanley Omosigho further stated that medical examination showed that the accused was HIV positive and had been on drugs.
The Magistrate, Joseph Okpor, however, adjoined the matter till December 1, 2014, for further hearing, adding that the accused would remain in prison custody till the hearing date.
