Defiant demonstrators remained on the streets of Hong Kong's financial center, blocking traffic on key highways a day after clashes with police that left more than 40 people injured. Explaining the decision to withdraw the riot police, the government said in a statement that the protesters on the streets were now behaving peacefully. But protesters have pointed out that the unrest Sunday resulted from heavy-handed police tactics. Riot police remained on guard on the sidelines of the main protest area near the government headquarters, although not in large numbers. CHIBOK SCHOOL GIRLS: APC ACCUSES JONATHAN ADMINISTRATION OF PLAYING DIRTY POLITICS

Image
 All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the (Goodluck) Jonathan Administration of seeking to negotiate the timing of the release of the Chibok girls to create a maximum public relations boost for itself, rather than out of a genuine concern for the girls who are now in their sixth month in captivity. In a statement issued in London on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said the clearest evidence of the government’s manipulation of the girls’ release came during President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent visit to New York to attend the UN General Assembly. ”Apparently assured, somehow, that the girls were about to be released, the Administration had set up an elaborate publicity event in New York, rented the necessary crowd and booked back-to-back interviews with the international media to enable the President to luxuriate in the girls’ release. This event was billed for the five-star Pierre Hotel in Manhattan, close to the UN Headquarters. ”Nigerians

There was confusion at the premises of the Ekiti State High Court on Thursday morning as the state Governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, allegedly ordered his thugs to beat up a judge, Justice John Adeyeye, for what he described as the judge’s “rudeness to him”. Witnesses said the pro-Fayose  thugs had besieged the court premises as early as 6a.m., while a detachment of policemen from the police headquarters were also seen on major streets and around the court. The original marriage rites of the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.

Image
When we hear the word marriage, we all develop different schemas and episodes of what we know about marriage based on our cultural backgrounds. As there are cultural differences in food, dress codes, parenting, norms and values, so it is with marriage. In the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, marriage follows almost the same pattern in every clan. Originally, when a man performs that rites, he is fully married and can go ahead with living and exercising the rights of a married person- consummation of marriage. But by the encroachment of foreign culture and the introduction of Church wedding, even the performance of the traditional marriage rites, does not give one conjugal rights. In Igbo culture, before acculturation started, the steps to getting married are as follows: 1. Visit the family of your intended wife with your parents, close relatives or friends. It is called "iku aka." This is not done empty handed. The person goes with a keg of palm wine or a bottle of whisky, but this

T.B Joshua had expressed on Sunday his desire to visit South Africa to commiserate with the families of 84 citizens of the country who lost their lives when a building of the church collapsed in Lagos on September 12. About 115 people died in the tragedy and Joshua had described those who lost their lives as martyrs to the consternation of South Africans. But reacting to Joshua’s desire to visit South Africa, the spokesperson for the ANC Youth League, Bandile Masuku, said, “TB Joshua should not be allowed to come to South Africa until we know what happened to our fellow countrymen at his church. We will make sure we engage with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to make sure they do not issue him with a South African visa.” A South African Newspaper, City Press,

Nigerian movies flaws and thumbs up.

Guys, there are certain characteristics of the Nollywood that throw some people off. There are also some good parts about them. I just want us to place pointers to these things to ensure improvement and advancement of this entertainment industry. I will start with one: "The voice of the director are sometimes heard in the movies" Now, read a reaction by Sanchez(niraland). We are in a world where entertainments, particularly movies, have come to play a pivotal role in our society. Irrespective of the fundamental role movies play in our society, thoughts of Nollywood movies cause drowsiness in me before the idea of seeing them comes to mind. Although, I spend a great deal of time at cinemas and sometimes, trying to download the latest Hollywood movies, yet, few minutes into a Nigerian movie and I’m off to Wonderland. I often wondered what was responsible for this until I believed that I have figured out the answers. A LOT is wrong with our Nollywood and as a movie enthusiast;

SHEKAU HAS BEEN KILLED- INVESTIGATIONS

Image
Details of how Abubakar Shekau, the impostor and leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group lost his life in a shootout with Nigerian troops in Konduga on Wednesday Sept. 17th emerged yesterday with military sources disclosing that he met his waterloo in an ambush reminiscent of the type the sect had been using to hack down Nigerian troops. Vanguard gathered that when the first attack on Konduga whereby hundreds of insurgents were taken unawares and killed after over seven hours of fighting and several of their colleagues, arms and ammunition captured, the military commanders strategically urged his captured members to send a message to Shekau that they (insurgents) have routed the troops. Before the captured insurgents were urged to make the contact and deliver the message, the military commanders had promised them that their cooperation would play a role in the level of punishment to be meted to them after the battle hence they felt reassured. Also, the captured insurgents had disclo

I have sex three to four times every day- Maheeda

Whenever the name, Maheeda is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is controversy, sex, nudity and promiscuity. The goddess of X and Naija Bad Girl as she is fondly called by her fans isn’t afraid to go nude as she’s constantly releasing nude photos of herself online and sexually explicit videos. Showtime Celebrity visited her studio in Dolphin Estate, Lagos, where she opens up on her sex life and more… What have you been up to in recent times? I’ve been bad, I’ve been naughty… You’ve seen Naija Bad Girl video and Lasgidi Chick. Now, I’m trying to see if I can drop one single before the end of the year. But I’m not sure that will be possible because I’m shooting the video in November. So, It could be next year. What is the inspiration behind your “Naija Bad Girl” song? I had this vision of what’s happening right now. Like I’m very bad, like I’m the baddest girl in Nigeria which is not true. So, my vision is actually to see my posters in people’s bedrooms and stuff like t

67 south Africans killed by synagogue collapsed buildings.

Johannesburg -South African President Jacob Zuma announced Tuesday that 67 South Africans died in a building collapse in Nigeria's financial capital Lagos. "I am greatly saddened to announce that 67 South Africans died and scores of others sustained injuries, after a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday," Zuma said in statement to the nation. Rescuers say the church's hostel, which housed Nigerian and foreign followers of a popular preacher and televangelist, T.B. Joshua, had been overburdened by the construction of additional floors. At least five South African church tour groups were at the Synagogue at the time of the collapse, according to officials. The number of South African dead exceeds the previously known toll for the disaster, a grim signal that the number of fatalities may rise further.
